First Semester: Haydn Misse Brevis and Schubert Mass in G major, in collaboration with Flinders University Chamber Ensemble. The result will be two concerts in June, one during a weekday at the library and one at night in the Flinders Function Centre.
Second Semester: Songs that inspire for union, humanity, and community. A night concert will be held on November 8 and a day concert on November 12 at the Flinders Function Centre.
We hold one formal event each year and it is our annual dinner. We book out a nice restaurant somewhere and dress up in our best tuxedoes and dresses (whichever you prefer). The Annual Dinner is usually held in July or August.
This is the dinner where your partners, old FUCS members and other AICSA choristers and are most likely to turn up. We try to ensure everyone is invited.
If you really want to write a particular speech get in touch with the social secretary.

We are attempting to sing in some of the graduation ceremonies held in the mid-semester break. More news coming up.

Choirs have camps for two reasons.
In about that order :)
Camps are are the best way to get to know the rest of the choir. When you stick a bunch of people in a big room and tell them to practise music all day it's not surprising that they party on all night afterwards. We get up to all sorts of silly stuff outside of the rehearsals but there are a few traditional things we do.
Theme Dinner
The Saturday night theme dinner is any random theme chosen by the camp officer at the time. We have a decent meal and set the room up to reflect the theme. We used to have traditional choral speeches at these dinners but in recent years we have failed to do this in favour of getting straight to the Revue.

The Revue
The Revue, also held Saturday night, is a time to show us your true talents. People get up in groups or solo to perform anything they want to the masses. We've had singing, dancing, acting, games, acts designed to embarrass the conductor etc. all performed with the wide variety of skills you come to expect from a choir. Sing your favourite song, sing an aria, tell a joke, give out lollies... we don't care as long as it's entertaining.
Couple of things to note about the revue is that it is judged (and the judges will take any bribes), freshers are expected to do a group act of some sort (with the other freshers), there is a prize (and it's really classy) and we don't take too kindly to people who are too slack to make up an act. There's usually something embarrassing in store for slack bastards (worst thing that ever happenned to slack bastards was that they got to scrub the pots from dinner. We really liked this one).

Rehearsal Times
The rehearsals are also very important at camps and they generally follow this timeline (this is a rough guide and does change according to how far the camp is from adelaide and stuff):
If you're at camp we kind of expect you to be in all these rehearsals so try not to get ill. If you're not going to be at camp for the whole weekend we hope that you'll try to make it to as many rehearsals as you can.

Things to bring
(This is generic. You'll be told if you *don't* need anything from this list):
Partners and friends are welcome to come to camps, but please make sure they realise that we'll be rehearsing for a lot of it. It's usually better to get them to come for the Saturday evening dinner and revue. Ask the treasurer about part-weekend prices.

Catering
Since we really like to rehearse while we are at camp, we are always looking for people (preferably friends of FUCS members) to cater for our camps. These caterers are always helped by a handful of the nicer sort of chorister between rehearsals and during rehearsals if absolutely neccesary. If you are a fantastic caterer and you don't mind cooking all weekend in return for a free camp with FUCS then let our Fresher Rep or Vice President know.

Every year choristers from around Australia (and on occasion returning from overseas) come together in one of the capital cities for the long-awaited two weeks of the IVCF, most commonly referred to fondly as 'IV'.
Over a day or two some 100-200 choristers descend on the city by bike, plane, train, boat, van and car and head straight to the camp. The camp lasts for the first week of the festival and involves day-long rehearsals bringing everyone rapidly up to date with the music.
When camp is over the IV moves to the city. The second week of IV sees more rehearsals, and also the major concerts of the festival - often involving the local state orchestra and accomplished soloists.
Being part of an IVCF is generally held to be a fantastic experience to be repeated time and time again, indeed there are many participants in IV's who are no longer attending their local choir but who still return once a year to be part of IV.
The governing body of all the University choirs in Australia is called AICSA (Australian Intervarsity Choral Societies Association). They are an executive elected by all of the choirs and a body made up of the choir Presidents and Vice Presidents.
The Adelaide and Flinders University choirs last co-hosted the festival in January 2001.

Every year we must hold a meeting to elect the new committee.
We hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM) every year in about October. Members that get elected at this meeting don't take office until 1st January of the next year. This gives them a bit of time to take careful note of what the previous committee member does for the committee.
Sometimes we are required to hold Extra General Meetings (EGM) during the year to fill a vacant position on the committee.
If you wish to join the committee have a read of what the various positions entail and ensure you are at the AGM. Then go around telling people how much you really want to be *insert committee position here* and you'll have everyone's support by the meeting for showing enthusiasm.
